Misal Pav - Chaat

This is one tasty, healthy and unique recipe that you can add it your meal plan. We always try to add more beans to our diet. This is one great option to show variety. My kids loved it so it's a win win recipe.

Cooking Time - 30 minutes
Serving Size - 2-3 people




Ingredients:

1. Green Moong beans - 1 cup
2. Potatoes - 1 medium sized
3. Onions - 1 cup
4. Tomato - 1 medium sized
5. Green chilly - 1 (adjust based on your spice level)
6. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
7. Chilly Powder - 1tsp
8. Kashmiri Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
9. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
10. Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp
11. Garam Masala - 1 tsp ( if you have Goda masala use that, I do'nt have it so I substituted it with garam masala)
12. Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
13. Crushed Garlic - 1 tsp
14. Crushed Ginger - 1 tsp
15. Pav/ buns
16. Sev
17. Lemon
18 . Salt as needed

Seasoning :

1. Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
2. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
3. Oil - 1 Tbsp

Steps:

1. In a pressure cooker, add green moong beans, potatoes, salt and 1 tsp of oil. Pressure cook them for 4-5 whistles. Beans should be cooked by now, if not keep it for few more whistles.

2. In a pan, heat a tbsp of oil - then add mustard and cumin seeds. 

3. Once it started to sputter, add onions and little salt. Cook until it become translucent. 

4. Add crushed garlic and ginger, saute it for few minutes.

5. Add green chilly and then tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes turns mushy.

6. Now add the cooked whole moong beans and potatoes.

7. Time to add all the masala powders(chilly, coriander, cumin and garam masala). Give it a mix.

8. Add tamarind paste and let it boil for 5 minutes.

9. Check the salt and let it be in low flame for few minutes.

When you are ready to serve: 

1. Slightly heat the pav with butter.

2. Add some chopped onions and coriander leaves to the moong beans. Drizzle some lime juice (optional)

3. Finally add sev and serve immediately!!
