Palakkai Kola /Green Jackfruit Balls

  This is an another authentic Chettinad recipe. The texture of the palakkai/green jackfruit and the blend of spices will definitely WOW your tastebuds. My kids loves it when I stuff cheese in it. This is a great healthy snack. You can enjoy it as such or with Ketchup or Mayo.




Cooking Time - 30 minutes
Serving Size - 2-3 People

Ingredients:

1. Cut Green Jackfruit - 250g
2. Roasted gram/ Pottukadalai -  1 Tbsp
3. Fennel Seeds / Sombu - 1 Tsp
4. Cumin Seeds / Seragam - 1 Tsp
5. Cinnamon/ Pattai - 3/4 inch
6. Red Chilly - 1
7. Green Chilly - 1-2
8. Coconut - 1 Tbsp
9. Poppy seeds - 1 tsp

1. Oil
2. Salt
3. All purpose flour - For Method 2
4. Bread Crumbs - For Method 2
5. Cubed Cheese - For Method 2
6. Ketchup and Mayo - For Method 2

Steps:

1. Steam green jack fruit in Idly pan for 5 minutes and keep aside.

2. Heat pan and add a tsp of oil and roast all the ingredients one by one from 2 to 8. Roast for 2-3 minutes.

3. In a blender, add all the roasted ingredients and pulse it for 2-3 times.

4. Add the green jackfruit, salt and coarse grind it. Consistency should be between coarse and paste.

5. Make balls out of it.

Method 1

1. In a pan heat oil, and deep fry all the balls. Make sure you roll the balls when you fry it so that it will be cooked evenly on all sides.

Method 2

1. Stuff the cheese in the middle and make balls.

2. Roll the balls in bread crumbs and then in flour.

3. Now deep fry the balls.

4. You can have it as such or with mayo and Ketchup sauce( mix mayo and ketchup).
