Mansatti Kathrikai Murungakkai Eral Kulambu/ Clay pot Shrimp Curry

I bet you will love this curry. I don't need anything but rice with this curry. The flavors of drumstick and shrimp in this curry is absolutely delicious. Do try it and let me know how it turned out for you.



Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 2-3 people

Ingredients:

1. Shrimp/Eral - 10-15
2. Drumstick Pieces - 7-8
3. Brinjal - 2 - Cut into pieces lengthwise
4. Small Onion - 5-6 or Large Onion - 1/2 Cup
5. Medium Size Tomato - 1 or 1/2 cup
6. Garlic - 4-5
7. Green Chilly - 4 (Adjust based on your Spice level)
8. Chilly Powder - 2 Tsp
9. Coriander Powder - 3 Tsp
10. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tsp
11. Salt as required
12. Tamarind Paste - 2 Tsp
13. Washed Rice water - 1 Cup(You can use regular water as well)

For Grinding:

1. Coconut - 1 Tsp
2. Onion - 1 Tsp
3. Sombu/fennel - 1/2 tsp
4. Seragam/Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp

For Seasoning:

1. Sesame Oil/Nallannai - 1-2 Tbsp
2. Mustard Seeds - 1 Tsp
3. Seragam/Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
4. Vendhayam/fenugreek seeds- 1/2 Tsp
5. Curry Leaves - 1 String

Steps:

1. In clay pot, heat oil, add all the ingredients mentioned under seasoning one by one. (If you don't have clay pot you can use regular kadai)

2. Add Onions and cook for a minute.

3. Add salt, green chilly and tomatoes. Cover and cook until the tomatoes turns mushy.

4. Add the veggies, drumstick and eggplant. Give it a mix and add little water and then cover and cook until the veggies are cooked. 

5. At this step add the shrimp and mix well.

5. Add all the masala powders, turmeric, chilly and coriander powders. Mix everything.

6. Add the washed rice water. Increase or decrease the amount based on the consistency.

7. Add Tamarind paste and mix.

8. Grind all the masalas mentioned under grinding. Grind it to a smooth paste.

9. Add it to the curry and cook for 10 minutes. Shrimp should be cooked by now.

10. Keep it in low flame until the oil separates.


Ready to serve it with hot hot rice!!
